Organic Gardening and Rose Growing

The Rose is the Queen of Flowers and should be treated as such. It is inexpensive and quite easy to start and maintain an organic rose garden. This is because most of the things that you need to maintain an organic rose garden come from nature itself.

Here are some tips for growing Your Organic Rose Garden:

When choosing a location to plant your roses, remember that roses prefer cool, moist soil to grow in. It may be best not to plant them in direct sun if you live in a warm southern state. Make sure you keep your geographic location in mind and you do not try to make the impossible happen.

You can mulch your roses with good mushroom compost. With enough time and effort you could even make your own organic compost. This will maintain the moisture and supply the nutrients to the soil. Mulching will also help suppress weeds near the base of your rose bush to allow better growth of the root system.

Alfalfa meal has been found to be very beneficial as an organic rose gardening product. A mixture of alfalfa and water can help create larger flowers as well as an increased tolerance to cold. It can be sprayed directly on the foliage or mixed in with the compost and should show results within a week.

Prune your organic roses on time. Remove any dead or diseased branches. Pruning opens up the plant and this helps to  suppress mildew formation. So remove all the diseased leaves to control rust and mildew before the problems get out of control.

Water your roses carefully so as not to spatter soil on the leaves. Even organic soil can transfer fungal infection to the plant. Always water in the day so that the water dries off before the evening and preventing opportunity for fungal diseases.

Once your organic rose garden gets started, it can be easily maintained with the usual TLC and some careful attention to detail. Soon you will be enjoying your organic rose garden with friends and creating a healthier, prettier environment for all of us.
